Crowns

Repair Your Tooth!

illustration of a dental crownTooth issues happen, including discoloration, soft or worn-down enamel, or cracked teeth. Nearly everyone will have at least one cavity during their lifetime. All of this damage can be treated with other means, like fillings or enamel treatments. Sometimes, the damage is more extensive. In that case, you’ll need a crown.

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are meant to be completely fitted over a tooth and to cover its entire surface. Crowns are frequently used to repair a tooth’s appearance, size, strength, or form. And while no one likes extensive dental treatment, a crown can help you get back to smiling and eating your favorite foods.

Again, a crown can be inserted for a variety of reasons, including worn down or broken teeth, covering a tooth with a large filling, to cover a tooth after a root canal, or even to replace discolored or misshapen teeth.

Crowns can be made from a plethora of materials, including metal or plaster. Typically, crowns covering molars or other hidden teeth are made of metal to last as long as possible, but crowns closer to the front of your mouth will be made from plaster that matches the look and feel of your natural teeth.
The original tooth is then either shaved down to the nub, or a dental implant is put in its place. Then, the crown is put on after being carefully sculpted and fitted to your individual mouth.
